About Us

Operation:Eagle was established on October 24th,1983 the day after Islamic terrorists bombed the United States Marine Corps barracks in Beirut, Lebanon killing 241 Marines, and injuring scores more. The 1st volunteer support activity entitled Letters to Lebanon resulted in 80 tons of volunteer mail, cards, letters, and care packages sent to the Marines in Beirut.

Since then Operation:Eagle has expanded to include in its support endeavors all branches of the Department of Defense: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. Additionally, Operation:Eagle includes Allied Armed Forces: United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and Israel in its support endeavors.

The purpose and objective of Operation:Eagle are to lift the morale and spirit of the United States Armed Forces personnel and their families, as well as the morale and spirit of Allied Armed Forces personnel and their families, as they defend freedom and liberty across the globe.

Volunteer support campaigns and projects of Operation:Eagle since 1983 have faithfully included reaching out to support the deployed troops across the globe. Operation:Eagle volunteers can be found in churches, synagogues, public and private schools, civic and veterans organizations across the USA, UK, and the world.

Volunteers of Operation:Eagle have demonstrated steadfast support for the troops overseas & their families back home through volunteer mail campaigns, organizing and promoting support rallies for the troops and their families and even welcome home rallies at airports when the troops come home.

Estimates as to the impact and contributions of Operation:Eagle volunteer support endeavors are noteworthy. Since it first began in 1983, Operation:Eagle volunteers have dispatched over 450 TONS of volunteer support mail to the troops overseas. Operation:Eagle normally focuses its volunteer support efforts during the Yuletide/Christmas/New Years holiday season. However, Operation:Eagle conducts support activities on behalf of the troops and their families year-round.

When the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division lost 248 paratroopers headed home for Christmas leave in an air crash in Gander, Newfoundland in 1985, Operation:Eagle volunteers contributed over 2,000 pounds of toys and Christmas gifts to the 101st Airborne Division Family Support Group at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky which were airlifted by a C-141 Starlifter after the Director, Operation:Eagle contacted President Ronald Reagan and requested assistance to get the donations to the families of the troops who died in the tragedy.

The events and aftermath of September 11th, 2001, altered the structure and focus of Operation:Eagle volunteerism. Because of the threat of bioterrorism Operation:Eagle suspended its “Any Servicemember" volunteer mail campaigns. This was implemented by the DoD to insure that International Terrorism and its sympathizers would not be able to intercept and/or exploit volunteer mail efforts and attack the troops overseas and stateside with contaminated cards, letters, and care packages. Since the suspension all subsequent volunteer support efforts have been by and large limited to the internet and email support efforts approved by the United States and Allied Armed Forces engaged in the War on International Terrorism.

When OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM first began over 50,000 volunteers added their names and the names of their families to a 32 foot-long support poster that was dispatched to the troops overseas in Afghanistan.

Operation:Eagle volunteers across the USA also participated in the Operation:Eagle OTAFA Project. OTAFA stood for "OPERATION TEACHERS AID FOR AFGHANISTAN." This involved collecting via the internet donations of elementary level school supplies collected for boys and girls in Afghanistan. This was in conjunction with First Lady Laura Bush's efforts to help children in Afghanistan go to elementary school. Operation:Eagle volunteers donated enough school supplies to support 50 Afghan children going to school.

Those who defend our freedom & liberty deserve no less than the complete confidence that their nation stands behind them and beside them. Operation:Eagle will be there and will help uplift our troops. All volunteer campaigns of Operation:Eagle, particularly in the aftermath of the events of September 11th are dedicated to the unsung heroes in the war on terrorism - the Military Families.

Their steadfast and resolute support for their loved ones deployed overseas or stationed stateside are deeply and profoundly appreciated. The personal, quiet, and unknown sacrifices made by the families cannot adequately be calculated, but they are most certainly invaluable and precious essentials in winning the war on terrorism.

Operation:Eagle is a volunteer support network that does not accept any monetary donations. For current efforts in supporting our troops and their families, please check out the News page here or visit our Facebook Page.
